Member of Parliament for Altrincham and Sale West
Graham Brady praises ‘Northern Educational Powerhouse’ Trafford for breaking Southeast stranglehold on top universities.
Altrincham and Sale West MP Graham Brady has pointed to the success of selective Trafford in getting pupils to top universities following a recent feature in the Times newspaper. The report by the Sutton Trust highlighted the Local Education Authorities getting most pupils into Russell Group Universities. Most LEAS were in London and the Southeast. The only three areas outside the Southeast which made it into the top 20 were selective Trafford, selective Torbay and partially selective Bournemouth.
Graham Brady said: ‘This report shows that Trafford is the only LEA outside London and the South to break into the top 20 for getting pupils into top universities. If Manchester is the powerhouse of the North for innovation and enterprise, then Trafford is clearly the Northern educational powerhouse. Trafford is leading the way in promoting aspiration, opportunity and social mobility.’
